Batum's four-point play put France up 10 early in the third quarter, but a 23-10 USA run with Mitchell scoring helped the Americans pull away

France's Victor Wembanyama had 22 points and 15 rebounds, but it wasn't enough to overcome Mitchell's 29 points and 6 assists.

The United States advanced to the semifinals of the FIBA Basketball World Cup with a 93-85 victory over France on Tuesday night. Donovan Mitchell led the way for the Americans with 29 points and 6 assists, while Rudy Gobert added 22 points and 15 rebounds. Nicolas Batum had 22 points and 6 rebounds for France, while Evan Fournier added 21 points.

The game was close throughout, with neither team leading by more than 10 points at any point. France took a 10-point lead early in the third quarter, but the United States responded with a 23-10 run to take the lead for good. Mitchell scored 15 points during the run, including a pair of three-pointers.

France cut the lead to 88-85 with 2:30 remaining, but Mitchell made a pair of free throws to seal the victory. The United States will now face the winner of Wednesday's quarterfinal game between Spain and Australia in the semifinals.
